Breath & Shadow

Winter 2021 - Vol. 18, Issue 1

"Rituals of Breath"

written by

Eve Rifkah

The geese sawtooth south

        and I        and I         and I

                            here

no wing-ticket out

the sage green walls of my room

    lay back and close in

hard fields confine

           this interment of the soul

wrap me in a shroud of winter white

    ghost dance to spring

  awakening       quiver

walk in vernal damp mist

           marsh marigold, bloodroot

                     little joys

wings unfurl with heat

        escape outwards      in sun

 brilliant opening

             seasons revolve

a sigh of time.
