"Ask the Moon"
Written By
Susan M. Silver
What moon is this,
Shining darkly through my slit-eyed blinds,
Veil-dancing, a shameless innocent?
Whose moon is this,
Smugly spying,
An uninvited midnight wanderer
In my awful-beautiful aloneness?
When I find myself
A scream away
From dog-paddling through a blackstrap-ocean sky,
Broken only by haphazard stars
Emitting years-old silver light,
Will she deign to speak?
Susan M. Silver writes. She lives in Manhattan.
