General Resources​

​​

Spectrum Generations - The Central Maine Area Agency on Aging and Aging & Disability Resource Center, offering comprehensive services for older adults and individuals with disabilities. Their programs include health and wellness initiatives, lifelong learning opportunities, nutrition services, and community engagement activities, all aimed at enhancing the social well-being and independence of participants. The Waldo County Community Center, located at 18 Merriam Road in Belfast, serves as a hub for these services, providing a welcoming environment for individuals to engage in various programs and activities.

Bridges Home Services - Provides programs in Waldo County. Their services cater to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, offering personalized care and support to enhance daily living and community involvement. These programs are designed to promote independence and improve the quality of life for participants.

Downeast Horizons - A nonprofit organization, offers services to adults with developmental disabilities in Waldo County. With over 50 years of experience, they provide supportive care to approximately 200 adults, helping them lead fulfilling lives through community-based programs and services.

Belfast Resources

​

Belfast General Assistance Program - Provides emergency help to local residents, including those with disabilities, who don’t have enough funds to meet basic needs. The program offers vouchers for essentials such as heating fuel, housing (rent or mortgage), food, clothing, diapers, and personal & household items. It’s intended for Belfast residents who meet eligibility rules and is a short-term safety net when other supports are insufficient.

Waldo County Public Transportation (WCPT) - Operated by Waldo Community Action Partners (WCAP). WCPT provides non-emergency public transportation (bus, van, volunteer drivers) for people who are elderly, low income, or have disabilities. It includes medical-appointment rides, and for MaineCare recipients who cannot get their own transportation. The service area covers many routes through Waldo County, including to and from Belfast.

Pedestrian, Transportation & Accessibility Committee - A local body that works with the city council to improve accessibility in public spaces. Its efforts include improving sidewalks, crossings, parking, and ensuring transportation or walking paths are usable and safe for people using mobility devices, wheelchairs, walkers, etc. The Committee is engaged in planning and infrastructure projects aimed at making Belfast more accessible city-wide.

Searsport Resources​

​​

Msad56 Developmentally Disabled Day Training Services - Operates in Searsport at 30 Mortland Road. It provides day training services for individuals with developmental disabilities. These services help participants build skills, engage in structured daily activities, and work toward greater independence.

​

The MaineHealth Physical and Integrative Medicine Clinic - Offers rehabilitation care and integrative medicine services. This includes physical therapy, possibly occupational/speech therapy or services that support mobility, recovery from injury, or ongoing physical rehabilitation for those with impairments.

​

Waldo Community Action Partners (WCAP) - Has a local center in Searsport (9 Field Road) providing multiple programs for low-income residents. While not exclusively disability-only services, WCAP offers transportation assistance, home support referrals, advocacy, and other resource assistance which people with disabilities often use to overcome barriers.

Bayview Manor - An assisted living facility. It offers housing, help with activities of daily living, supervision, and support services. This may include for seniors and people with disabilities who require assistance but not full nursing care.

​

SequelCare of Maine - Offers services for adults with developmental disabilities, including residential housing and treatment for those with co-occurring mental health or substance abuse issues. These are trauma-informed and designed to support individuals with dual diagnoses.
