SAGADAHOC COUNTY RESOURCES

Midcoast Maine Community Action (MMCA) - Located in Bath, this serves Sagadahoc County by offering various programs aimed at supporting families and individuals in need. While their primary focus is on early childhood education through Head Start and Early Head Start programs, MMCA also provides resources that can assist individuals with disabilities and their families in accessing community services and support.

Legal Services for Maine Elders - Offers free, high-quality legal services to individuals aged 60 and over in Sagadahoc County. They provide support on a range of issues, including public benefits, housing, and elder abuse, ensuring that older adults have access to the legal resources they need.

Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic - Serving Sagadahoc County, offers legal assistance to individuals facing civil legal issues. This service is particularly beneficial for low-income residents, including those with disabilities, who may require legal representation or advice.

Community Aging in Place Grant Program - Administered by the Maine State Housing Authority, offers no-cost home safety checks, minor maintenance repairs, and accessibility modifications to eligible low-income elderly and disabled homeowners in Sagadahoc County. This program enables recipients to continue living safely and comfortably at home, promoting independence and quality of life.

Sky-Hy Adult Day Care - Offers adult day services for people who need help during the day—especially older adults and those with disabilities who don’t need overnight care. They provide supervised activities, meals and snacks, socialization, and some health-related supports. This kind of service gives caregivers a break and helps participants stay engaged.

The Assisted Living Communities at The Highlands in Topsham - Offers care that includes assistance with daily living tasks (like bathing, dressing, medication) on a 24/7 basis, plus wellness programs, dining, social activities, and more. These provide more support than a regular independent living setup. The Independent Living options at The Highlands (including Maine Lodge and Town Hall Apartments) also offer accessible living designed for people who want more autonomy. Features include apartment rentals, maintenance, wellness/life-enrichment programs, transportation to nearby areas, and emergency response services. While not strictly a “disability service,” these help people with disabilities live more independently.

The Maine Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) - Provides statewide support, including for Topsham residents. VR helps qualifying individuals with disabilities gain and keep employment, including transition services for students, counseling, training, assistive technology, and follow-up services as needed.

Applications are by appointment, and in emergency situations outside business hours contact with the Bath Police Department is an option. Decisions on eligibility are made within 24 hours of application.

Elmhurst, Inc. - Provides a range of services for adults with intellectual disabilities or autism. Their Community Supports Program helps individuals engage in the community and reach personal goals, while their Residential Programs offer staffed housing with supports tailored to capability and need. They also offer job coaching, supported living, independent living assistance, and case management, helping people with disabilities live as independently as possible.

The Bath-Brunswick Adult Day Program (Operated by Respite Care Midcoast) - Offers structured day services for folks with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other cognitive disabilities. Located in the former Bath Hospital at 9 Park Street, the program includes group and individual activities—arts, games, physical movement—as well as socialization, with full-day or half-day options. The program is designed to stimulate, support dignity, and give both participants and their caregivers respite.

Bath Housing Authority - Operates public housing and voucher programs (including the Section 8 / Housing Choice Voucher program). Some of their housing units and preferences give priority or consider disability status, helping people with disabilities secure stable, affordable housing.
