MaineHealth | Physical Therapy (PT) - MaineHealth offers physical therapy services to patients across the state. This website links to a list of providers and locations where you can get physical therapy assistance.


Northern Maine Medical Center - NMMC offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, upper extremity rehabilitation, physical or psychological disabilities rehabilitation, and speech therapy.

Central Maine Healthcare is a large provider of healthcare services for the state, so this links you to their website for more information specific to Central Maine Healthcare.

Seacoast Mobile Physical Therapy - This is a mobile physical therapy service with Dr. Dara Storch. Dara’s services are based on the ME/NH border, so Dara’s reach is limited to Southern Maine residents.

They assist with credentialing, contracting, and provide exclusive directory listings for member practices.

National Resources

American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) - The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is the primary professional organization for PTs and PTAs in the U.S., representing over 100,000 members. Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, APTA provides a wide range of resources, including continuing education courses, access to scientific literature, and support for national advocacy and public awareness campaigns. Members benefit from discounted specialist certifications and access to events like the Combined Sections Meeting (CSM).


Licensure and the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) - To practice as a PT or PTA in the U.S., individuals must obtain licensure, which is managed by individual state regulatory boards. A key component of this process is passing the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE), administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT). The NPTE assesses basic entry-level competence to ensure that only qualified individuals are licensed in the field.


Evidence-Based Practice and Clinical Guidelines - APTA offers extensive resources to promote evidence-based practice among its members. This includes access to clinical practice guidelines, tests and measures, intervention strategies, and research agendas. These tools are designed to integrate the best available evidence with clinical expertise and patient values, enhancing patient care and outcomes.


Educational Accreditation and Student Resources - The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) is responsible for accrediting entry-level education programs for PTs and PTAs, ensuring the quality of education in the field CAPTE. APTA supports students through resources tailored to their educational journey and career development, including opportunities for involvement and access to a network of professionals.


Public Education and Patient Resources - APTA's ChoosePT.com serves as a public-facing platform to educate consumers about the benefits of physical therapy. It provides information on how PTs can help individuals avoid surgery and prescription drugs, manage pain and chronic conditions, and improve mobility and overall health.
