KNOX COUNTY RESOURCES
Spectrum Generations - Serves Knox County as the designated Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC). It provides a wide array of supports for older adults and individuals with disabilities, including options counseling, caregiver assistance, Medicare and insurance navigation, legal help, nutrition programs, adult day services, and referrals to long-term care. Spectrum Generations acts as the primary gateway for residents seeking accessible resources and support services throughout the region.
The Knox Clinic - Provides accessible and affordable healthcare services to uninsured and underinsured residents in Knox County. Services include medical, dental (via its Dental Program), prescription assistance, mental health counseling, and social services support. Dental care includes exams, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and low-cost partials or dentures for eligible individuals.
Coastal Opportunities - Operates the Katherine Brown Home in Rockland, which is an intermediate-care facility (ICF) for people with intellectual disabilities, designed for wheelchair users, offering structured support to enhance daily skills and independence.
Knox County Homeless Coalition - Provides comprehensive wraparound support for adults and families facing homelessness or housing instability. Their services—while not exclusive to disability-related needs—can be essential for individuals with disabilities who are experiencing housing or economic crises.
Rockland Resources
The Rockland Peer Support Center - Offers a space where people living with mental health challenges can connect with peers for mutual support. It operates weekdays, providing a non-clinical, understanding environment to help people feel less isolated, share experiences, and link up with more formal mental health resources when desired.
MaineHealth Behavioral Health - Provides outpatient mental health services, counseling, therapy groups, psychiatric care, case management, and services for children, adolescents, and adults with developmental disorders or co-occurring substance use issues. These services help people with disabilities access the mental health care and related supports they need.
Rockland General Assistance Office - Offers short-term help for residents who are struggling to meet basic living needs. They provide emergency assistance with rent, utilities, heating, food, and medical essentials for people who have no other resources. In urgent cases, decisions are made within 24 hours.
Rockland Community College Accessibility Services Office - Helps make educational programs more accessible. Services include accommodations such as extended test times, note takers, alternative/text assistive technologies, and coordination with faculty to ensure compliance with ADA and Section 504.
RSU #13 (which includes Rockland) - Runs a robust Special Education / Child Find program to identify, evaluate, and support children with disabilities (kindergarten through grade 12). This includes educational services for various eligibility categories such as autism, intellectual disability, speech/language impairment, and more. It also interfaces with early intervention services for younger children.
Rockland CareerCenter - Provides workshops (resume help, interviewing, etc.), links job seekers with employment services, and partners with programs under Vocational Rehabilitation and Workforce Solutions to help individuals attain meaningful work.
The Rockland Parks & Recreation Department - Operates the Flanagan Community Center, which offers seasonal and ongoing recreational programs, rentable accessible spaces (courts/rooms), and maintains parks, trails, and playgrounds. There is also an inclusive playground project (“All-Aboard Inclusive Playground”) under development through the Rockland Rotary Club and related community efforts to ensure access to play and exercise for people of all ages and abilities.
Camden Resources
Coastal Opportunities - Offers day programming, residential support, and employment services for adults with developmental disabilities. For example, they run the Thomas F. Corcoran Center (Limerock St.) and the Olive Coates Center, providing community support services including life skills, arts, personal‐social programs, and volunteer participation. They also operate residential homes in Camden and nearby towns, with varying levels of supervision to help residents maintain independence. Work Support Services under Coastal Opportunities help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities find and maintain employment that's matched to their abilities. They include supports like job coaching, transportation assistance, and tasks tailored to worker skills. Employers in the community partner with them (e.g., small stores, YMCA, hardware stores) so that job placements are meaningful.
Quarry Hill (The Gardens at Quarry Hill) - Provides short-term skilled nursing, rehabilitation services (physical, occupational, speech therapies, respiratory therapy) after illness, injury, or hospitalization, aimed at recovering or maintaining function. This helps people with disabilities needing extra support to regain abilities or adapt to new limitations.
The Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS) - Serves Camden via the Augusta office. These state services help people with disabilities to prepare for, find, and maintain employment; provide independent living services; and assist with vision or hearing impairments.
