AROOSTOOK COUNTY RESOURCES

General Resources

Aroostook Area Agency on Aging (Aroostook ADRC) - The county’s designated Aging & Disability Resource Center, located in Presque Isle. It provides a broad array of services to older adults and individuals with disabilities and their caregivers. These include information and referrals, health insurance/Medicare counseling, options counseling (helping people consider what long-term services might work best), advocacy, caregiver support and respite, educational programming, and access to services like home-delivered meals, falls prevention, adult day care, legal assistance, and more.

Aroostook Regional Transportation System (ARTS) - Provides door-to-door rides for medical appointments, errands, shopping, and other essential trips, including for people with disabilities and older adults. They coordinate with MaineCare (through ModivCare), the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, veterans services, Central Aroostook day programs, and other agencies. All vehicles are ADA accessible (equipped with lifts), and drivers are trained to assist riders with disabilities. ARTS also offers services for errands and shopping within the county hub towns. Each community is served at least once a week to enable rides for tasks such as paying bills, visiting family, and other non-medical transportation needs. They also provide transportation to sheltered workshops and day programs for individuals referred by MaineCare or local agencies.

Aroostook Memory Care Center - A collaboration between the UMaine Center on Aging and Aroostook Area Agency on Aging. Based in Presque Isle, it is being developed with federal grant funding and will provide dementia-focused care coordination (including screening, referrals, and connections to the Acadia Hospital Mood & Memory Clinic), one-on-one expert consultations for caregivers, respite services, support groups, and training in hands-on caregiving skills. It also aims to build local capacity by training gatekeeper organizations and partnering with primary care practices.
