"Stickers Cover My Fingers"

written by

Mercury Sunderland

stickers cover my fingers. i

don’t remember getting out the

sticker book. i

see my own mirrored image

in the reflection of silver wrapping. i

can’t get the pixellated noise

out of my ears. so i

gently peel from my fingertips. i

hold my breath & make sure

i don’t dig too deep. i

find myself trapped to a portal

of an alternate reality. so i

bring soap & water to cleanse

the glue from my nails. i

scrub deep & draw blood. i

take the band-aid to sop up. my

finger weeping grand canyons. i

am forgetting cotton swabs

to bring to sponges. i

swab myself in candle wax

to bring a waterproof coating. so

instead i find myself in this

room. waiting

for the doors upon doorways. i

open & close

& find nothing. so instead i

regurgitate myself

on the holy throne. i

disintegrate into glitter

& find myself escaping

yet still found everywhere.
