"Five Good Things about Being Paralyzed"

written by

Elizabeth Gilbert

The bottoms of my feet are quite pretty.
No one ever expects me to stand up when they enter the room.
Handicap seating in live performance venues is usually the best.
My legs rarely get tired.
Others' expectations are so low, I can't help but exceed them.

Elizabeth Gilbert's plays include Effects of Thunder, Transmigration of Existence, Tolstoy is Dead!, and Release Yearning. She is the Artistic Director of Women's Works, which is dedicated to developing the voices of women in the community. She has received several awards and grants, including an artist performance residency at Diverse Works Arts Space and an Individual Arts Grant for Literature.
