Maine Resources Works to enable the people of Aroostook to achieve greater economic independence and dignity, and provides leadership to the community in responding to changing human needs. Provides access to health care for people with limited incomes. "We are especially concerned with the needs of lower income adults who are isolated by location or health. We administer programs to help them lead productive lives and maintain contact with the world around them." A social service agency that has been providing services for over 35 years to people living in the Franklin, Androscoggin and Oxford counties of the western mountain region of Maine. The majority of our services are designed to assist low to moderate income people.

Consumer Assistance HelpLine:

Free assistance, primarily in identifying health coverage assistance resources, or in navigating state-sponsored health coverage assistance programs.

Dirigo Health:

A State Insurance Program for people who work in small business or are self-employed.


A Health Insurance Program for people 65 years of age and older, some disabled people under 65 years of age, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure treated with dialysis or a transplant). Medicare eligibility begins 24 months after you first receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

Medicaid Buy-In Option:

Disabled workers can apply for coverage through Medicaid at a reduced rate.

Prescription Drug Programs:

A guide for older people and adults with disabilities who need help paying for prescription drugs. In addition to information about programs in Maine, other resources such as consumer buying tips and where to get help in your community are included.

A comprehensive resource for Mental Health Legal Information.

NAMI Maine:

A statewide organization providing information, referral, education and support to adults and children with mental illness and their families, and is the official Maine affiliate of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.

HIV/AIDS/STD Resources in Maine:

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), and Sexually Transmitted Disease(s) (STD) resources in Maine.

Health & Assisted Home Services: Home Care, Assisted Living and Nursing Facilities Care-

Pine Tree Legal Assistance:

Provides legal representation to income eligible clients. 

Maine Equal Justice Project:

An organization that advocates for the rights of low-income people who have been treated unfairly in public programs.

Consumer Health Law Program:

Free legal assistance, primarily for people in disputes with their private insurance company. A service provided by Consumers for Affordable Health Care.

Offers a variety of social services that promote self-sufficiency within the people of the communities of Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties of Maine.

Community Counseling Center, Portland:

Involves individuals, couples, and families in a process of understanding themselves and each other on issues including interpersonal relationships, stress, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, child abuse, spousal abuse, and teen pregnancy.

Crisis and Counseling Centers, Inc.:

24-hour Crisis Intervention: 1-888-568-1112

24-hour mobile, walk-in and residential crisis service and Outpatient mental health, substance abuse and dual-diagnosis counseling service for adults, children, adolescents and families.

Eastern Maine Healthcare:

A network of healthcare agencies throughout central, eastern, and northern Maine. The site includes a physician finder and an online library of resources related to health concerns.

Maine Health:

A network of healthcare agencies and hospitals. The site has a directory of the doctors in their network, information about target diseases (diabetes, asthma, etc.), listing of long-term care and home health agencies.
