"Flowers For Libby"
written by
Nancy Scott
Glass is fragile and heavy,
but the colors caught forever
in paper that looks like silk
in a vase of cardboard
are fun to see
next to the TV
she no longer watches.
She can't read the birthday cards
that clutter and confuse.
But those two-dollar tulips never die,
miraculously given
each night
by a nurse or friend or child
while she sleeps
and dreams of vanishing soil.
Nancy Scott's over-550 bylines have appeared in magazines, literary journals, anthologies and newspapers, and as audio commentaries. An essayist and poet, she has published three chapbooks.
