"Baggage"

written by

Mike Wood

Neatness is a goal

Baggage, like bones,

Must be stacked in a bin so

To conserve space, in hopes of

A full flight.

The type of cart, shape and style of bag…

I want to be alone here, building up my own layer by perfect layer

Of other people’s baggage; I’ll be complimented by the ramp agents

For my ability, as if muscle and design is proof of skill.

Mike Wood is a writer and critic. Before becoming unable to work, he was literacy programs coordinator at Crossroads Rhode Island, a resource center for homeless and disconnected adults. Currently he is a candidate for Zen priest ordination through Five Mountain Buddhist seminary. He lives in Rhode Island with his wife and several cats.
