"Serpent Mists"

written by

Jim Pennington

The grayness of weary day slithers in
serpent mist, and peers through slits
of darkened blinds. The slatted barriers of
outside world strain from the invasion.

Narrow lighted eyes of gray; shoot beams
of misty stare through dimness of shut out
room. In silent hisses the venom of pale
light infects the solitude; and stirs
through the veins of interrupted sleep.

A self taught artist, sculptor and writer from the Appalachians of eastern Kentucky,
Jimmie R. Pennington’s writing has been published in Pegasus, Kudzu, Promise
Magazine, Kaleidoscope, Branchwood Journal, Blue Ridge Traditions Magazine, Mid
South Review, The Corbeled Gallery, West Virginia Words, Dakota House Journal,
White Ash Literary Magazine, Oddball Magazine, Stray Light Magazine, Literary
Orphans, Kentucky Stories, Voice Magazine, Kentucky Monthly and others.

Jimmie is the author of three poetry collections, one short story collection, one memoir, and one amateur sleuth mystery novel. He is currently busy writing his second novel titled, Murder At Moon Hollow.
