Thirty Scholarships Available for Blind Students

The National Federation of the Blind will give 30 college scholarships to the nation's top blind students in its 2008 NFB Scholarship Program during their annual convention in July. These awards include the $12,000 Kenneth Jernigan Scholarship; 1 Scholarship for $10,000; 2 Scholarships for $7,000 each; 4 Scholarships for $5,000 each; and 22 Scholarships for $3,000 each.

Each winner will be brought to the NFB annual convention next July with all expenses covered by the Federation and will receive other useful gifts.

Please help alert college-bound blind students in your community (along with their teachers and parents) to the availability of these30 scholarships. If you are an eligible student, please go to:

for more information and the online application form.

The National Federation of the Blind is an organization dedicated to creating opportunity for all blind people. To that end, recipients of NFB scholarships need not be members of the National Federation of the Blind. All scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, community service, and financial need. Individuals who have previously applied are encouraged to apply again.

Going beyond scholarships, the NFB has a great deal of information that is freely available to any blind or visually impaired student who has problems that prevent that student from competing on an equal basis in tasks that others perform with the use of sight. Please share with these blind students an invitation to e-mail directly to the scholarship chairperson, about any such difficulties so that this direct contact can help them network within the NFB with the organization’s problem-solvers.
