Accessible Devices at Maine’s Career Centers?

(Editor’s Note; I visited the Augusta Career Center recently and asked about the access to work stations promised by the AbleMe grant that the Maine Department of Labor had during the last two fiscal years. And, here’s what I found out. Star Perkins provided information from her position in Augusta’s Center, Eric Dibner provided a bit more about statewide presence of these devices. Steve Hoad)

(From Eric Dibner)

“The AbleME project that MDOL had the past two years installed the same software statewide on the Citrix system, so it is available in all CareerCenters. The hardware varies somewhat from site to site, but all locations have large flat screen monitor, trackball mouses, adaptive keyboards, and assistive listening systems. Most all sites got new Merlin CCTVs or have an older CCTV. The seven larger sites are the only ones that got the adjustable height work station tables and the Intellitype keyboard communicator for the front counters. Only Portland and Augusta have D-Link videophones, but fourteen sites now have videoconferencing equipment. All locations received training by Mike [Adams] and Mary Beth [Walsh], as well as from EnableMart when they installed the equipment,”

(from Star Perkins about the Augusta Career Center’s devices)
