Farmington Area Bus?

In Mid-June, the following announcement appeared on the AbilityMaine front page:

New Bus Service in the Farmington – Wilton area.
Started on June 19
Open to the public
has wheelchair access
$2.00 – .50 for people with disabilities
Call 1–800–393–9335
Use it!

So? How’s the service doing?

I called and talked with Barb to find out. The 800 number reached Western Maine Transportation and I was pleased to hear an upbeat voice answering my questions.

Ridership so far is good, and growing! The people involved are pleased with the service they are providing and the organization, with very little advertising, is seeing the kind of passengers they hoped for.

Barb said that the bus runs from 7:30 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday.
It operates on Route 2 Wilton to Farmington and about a mile toward New Sharon, And about a mile up RT. 4 toward Strong. It is Local and regular to Farmington, Wilton, E. Wilton.

On Tuesdays, there are a couple of different and alternating routes. One week, The Bus from Kingfield leaves around 7:30 AM goes down Rt 4.

On the alternate week, or other Tuesday the trip starts in Rangeley at 7:30 . Both the Tuesday trips back leave Farmington area around 2.

Currently, the service uses just one bus and it is wheelchair accessible.

It is important to know that if you want to use the service you must call to schedule your trip. The Bus holds 12 passengers.

It is exciting to see service such as this begin in another Maine town. Western Maine Transportation and its partners are rightfully pleased and proud to be getting this going. For those of us who need it, the service is a great addition. If we use it, and tell our friends and neighbors about it, growth and expansion will follow. In a time of rising gas prices, a $2 fare makes sense for any riders. And the special fare for people with disabilities is a real bargain.
